Wisconsin - Wisconsin Legislature Takes up AEDThe Wisconsin State Legislature has introduced legislation that would prohibit a pharmacist from substituting an AED without the consent of the prescribing physician and patient (or the patient's legal guardian). SB 354 and HB 506 would require a pharmacist who is refilling an AED to dispense the same drug from the same manufacturer. Both bodies have held hearings on the issue, though no official action has yet been taken. The AAN Professional Association (Academy) supports this important legislation, as the discretion for this decision should remain with the prescribing physician and should not be determined by coverage limitations. Members are encouraged to login to Vocus to send a letter to their local legislators to show their support for this important legislation. The Academy will continue to monitor this legislation, so please keep checking back for further updates. For more information, contact Tim Miller, Health Policy Analyst at tmiller@aan.com. |
