7IN.001 - Inflammation in Epilepsy

Event Time: Friday March 22, 2013 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
Topic(s): Aging and Dementia, Child Neurology/Developmental Neurobiology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy, MS and Related Diseases, Neurologic Manifestations of Systemic Disease, Subspecialty in Focus
Director(s): Jacqueline French MD, FAAN, Tallie Baram MD, PhD
Description: Inflammatory processes within the brain are emerging as important contributors in both the onset and the progression several adult and pediatric epilepsies. Examples include adult onset temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) with auto-antibodies to neuronal components, the TLE that may follow febrile status epilepticus and others. Faculty will review the state of our current knowledge, and facilitate a discussion with the audience about the challenges in defining causality, diagnoses and interventions to ameliorate the contribution of inflammation to epilepsy. This program is offered in partnership with the American Epilepsy Society and the AAN Epilepsy Section.
