7IN.003 - Brain Stimulation: Clinical and Neuroscience Implications

Event Time: Friday March 22, 2013 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Topic(s): Cerebrovascular Disease, Movement Disorders, Aging and Dementia, Autonomic Disorders, Behavioral Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Neural Repair/Rehabilitation, Subspecialty in Focus
Director(s): Anjan Chatterjee MD, FAAN, H. Coslett MD, FAAN
Description: Brain stimulation with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation(TMS), transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), deep brain stimulation (DBS) and direct cortical stimulation using “brain machine interfaces” has contributed substantially to the understanding of basic brain mechanisms underlying emotional regulation, language, attention, executive functioning and social cognition. Furthermore, the techniques have direct clinical implications as they have been used to treat a variety of neurologic and psychiatric conditions such as aphasia, neglect, depression and disorders of motor control. Experts in different types of brain stimulation will discuss the scientific and clinical implications of these techniques. This program is offered in partnership with the American Society of Neurorehabilitation, Society for Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology, the AAN Neural Repair and Rehabilitation Section, and the AAN Behavioral Neurology Section.
