Letter from the President
Dear Alliance members,
I am pleased to announce this year marks our AAN Alliance 60th Anniversary. The Alliance offers support to spouses, partners, and families who attend the AAN Annual Meeting. The next Annual Meeting will be in Seattle from April 25 to May 2, 2009. The S. Weir Mitchell Award and the Founders Award are presented annually by the Alliance to help advance research in neurology. All this is possible with the support of our members.
The Alliance will join the AAN Foundation to promote the message supporting brain research. We will assist the Foundation with selling paper "BRAINS," which was a huge success at the 2008 Annual Meeting in Chicago. We will also help host an art exhibit for the Foundation. Come and celebrate our 60th year with anniversary cake as you browse the art exhibit. Our booth will be located inside the convention center.
Seattle Hospitality Services will provide tours during the week of the convention. I invite you to view our Alliance web pages and register for these exciting and scenic tours of the Seattle area. The tours include a glass blowing demonstration at Pioneer Square, and a visit to the beautiful Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery. Also, please be sure to join us on Monday, April 27, for our annual luncheon at Cutters Bayhouse Restaurant.
Many members have enjoyed the friendships they have made through the Alliance. This year we are offering several new, inexpensive social activities for our group. Two members of the Alliance will hold an informal discussion and share their experiences of living with multiple sclerosis. Our book club will host a casual walking tour to the famous Pike Place Fish Market. Purchase the book FISH! Catch the Energy & Release the Potential by Stephen C. Lundin, Ph.D. at your favorite bookstore and experience the market where the "FISH" idea was born. Weather permitting; we also plan to ride the monorail to the Space Needle and see the panoramic views of the Seattle area.
I invite you to support the Alliance by completing the form and returning it with payment. Membership dues remain at $30 this year.
We have worked hard to plan many events to make your visit to the annual meeting an enjoyable experience. See you in Seattle!
Best wishes,
Kristine Swanson
President, AAN Alliance
