Government Relations Committee
The Government Relations Committee (GRC) recommends priorities for the Academy's federal and state advocacy agendas and direct member efforts to influence health policy.
Mission: To engage AAN members in advocacy in support of the profession of neurology and patients with neurologic disease.
Vision: To be the primary resource to AAN members on legislation and advocacy.

Viste Patient Advocate of the Year Selection Subcommittee
Selects the annual recipient of the Kenneth M. Viste, Jr., MD, Patient Advocate of the Year Award.

Work Groups
State Advocacy
Maintains active communication with state neurosocieties and identified key contacts throughout the US. Oversees the annual State Society Leadership Roundtable and develops advocacy strategies and priorities on the state level.

Subspecialty Outreach
Gathers potential advocacy priorities from AAN sections and subspecialty associations and is responsible for identifying possible collaborations with relevant patient organizations through common objectives.

Member Relations
Responsible for keeping AAN members informed on advocacy activities through strategic communications and content on www.aan.com/advocacy. Reviews active and new Position Statements and oversees the Academy online advocacy software Vocus.
Federal Advocacy
Oversees federal advocacy activities and reviews all requests for Academy involvement on federal issues. Aids in the development of messages on key legislative issues and oversees the annual Neurology on the Hill by recommending priorities and assisting in curriculum development.

Grassroots Advocacy
Oversees grassroots advocacy activities, monitors member involvement in state advocacy, and strategizes ways to increase participation. Serves as a resource to the Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum by reviewing its curriculum, application and selection processes, and proposing ways to keep Forum graduates involved with the Academy.
