How does the board fit in to strategic planning?
- The board determines the vision, mission, and shared values (perhaps once per decade)
- The board determines the goals, metrics, and targets once a year (say in February)
- The board approves the annual budget
How do committees fit in to strategic planning?
- Committees recommend metrics
- Committees determine and carry out tactics (projects) to achieve the goals
- Committees monitor and report on metrics and adjust tactics accordingly
- Committees contribute information to environmental scans, both the wide and deep scans
How does staff fit in to strategic planning?
- Staff assist committees to recommend metrics
- Staff assist committees to determine and carry out tactics to achieve the goals
- Staff assist committees to monitor and report on metrics and adjust tactics accordingly
- Staff assist committees to contribute information to environmental scans
- Staff assists board in preparing annual budget
What do the board, committees, and staff all have in common?
- The board, committee members, and staff are expected to behave in a manner consistent with the shared values and with the common goal of accomplishing the vision and mission.
