Explanation of 2010 Amendments to the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws
In February 2010, the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and American Academy of Neurology Professional Association (AANPA) Boards of Directors recommended several significant amendments to the organizations' Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, including:
- Change the name of The American Academy of Neurology Professional Association to the American Academy of Neurology [a 501(c)(6) tax exempt organization] and change the name of The American Academy of Neurology to the American Academy of Neurology Institute [a 501(c)(3) organization].
- Authorize the renamed AAN(C6) Board of Directors to adopt a comprehensive membership policy.
- Transfer membership from the C3 to the C6 organization.
In April 2010, the Membership approved all proposed amendments to the AAN and AANPA Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws.
In December 2010, the two Boards of Directors implemented the amendments. Effective December 6, 2010;
- The American Academy of Neurology Professional Association has been renamed "American Academy of Neurology"
- The American Academy of Neurology has been renamed "The American Academy of Neurology Institute."
- All membership is now in the American Academy of Neurology, a 501(c)(6) tax exempt organization.
