Neil A. Busis, MD, FAAN

Neil A. Busis, MD, FAAN, is chief of the division of neurology and director of the neurodiagnostic laboratory at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Shadyside, Pittsburgh, PA, and president of Pittsburgh Neurology Center.

Busis served on the American Medical Association's CPT®, Relative Value Update and Practice Expense Advisory Committees representing the AAN and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM). He was principal author of the AANEM's Recommended Policy for Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the basis for Appendix J: Electrodiagnostic Medicine Listing of Sensory, Motor and Mixed Nerves in current CPT manuals. He serves as consulting editor for Neurology Coding Alert. AAN and AANEM online coding tools draw from his neurologic procedure coding syllabus.

Busis created and maintains Neuroguide?Neurosciences on the Internet. He developed the first websites for the AANEM and the AAN Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Sections. He advised the AAN on website design, developed its first online CME course, and directed its first e-healthcare course. He serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of Medscape Neurology & Neurosurgery, the Editorial Boards of Neurology Today and eMedicine: Neurology, and served as a consultant for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Web Site Redesign Project.

He is a former president of the AANEM and a member of its Website Advisory and Professional Practice Committees. He is also a member of the AAN Medical Economics and Management Committee and its Practice Management and Technology Subcommittee and Electronic Health Records Work Group.
