AAN Surveys: Improve Your Academy
Members can have their voice heard through membership surveys created by the AAN Surveys department. Surveys provide an important function by allowing members a direct channel of feedback about AAN products, services, and processes. Input from surveys is extremely helpful to AAN leadership in making decisions about Academy initiatives.

How AAN Surveys Members
All survey work at AAN is centralized through the Surveys Department. It is the responsibility of our office to ensure that all questionnaires meet AAN established guidelines for surveys that are requested by AAN sections, committees, and subcommittees. The survey process is made up of five phases:
- Request and Planning: A survey request is submitted through an AAN committee, subcommittee, or section to initiate the survey process. AAN Survey staff will discuss survey goals, audience, and timeline.
- Survey Development: A survey draft is prepared. Survey questions are carefully crafted to ensure the survey's goals are adequately addressed.
- Review and Design: A satisfactory draft is submitted for approval to the Member Demographics Subcommittee (MDS). The MDS must review and approve every survey that is sent to AAN members. The MDS may provide additional suggestions for revisions before being circulated to members.
- Distribution: A typical AAN survey is distributed using a combination of 3 methods: fax, postal mail and e-mail. The distribution phase usually lasts two months, but can vary greatly depending on response rate.
- Results: Once data collection is complete, the Surveys staff prepares data for analysis, as well as a final report.
A complete survey may take anywhere from 4 to 6 months depending on the level of detail, complexity of the review process, timeliness of returned results, or other factors. Once complete, the survey results are made available to the member(s) who have submitted the request. Results are also archived for future use.
