Advocate's History

A senior neurologist and educator, Dr. Apoorva Pauranik believes that education about neurology is one of the most efficient means for advocacy. His targets include:

  • Neurology residents, internists and family physicians in rural remote areas (through a one-week provincial annual neurology certificate course)
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate medical students (through a provincial annual neurology quiz)
  • Vocational groups including school teachers and police personnel (through workshops)
  • Patients and their families (through creation of patient support groups and newsletter dedicated to different neurological diseases)
  • The public at-large (through mass media, using articles, lectures, television/video, radio, and the Neurogyan website)

Dr. Pauranik has also worked hard with politicians, ministers and bureaucrats to start a neurology residency training program in Madhya Pradesh and to persuade primary school administrators to make special provisions for children with dyslexia and learning disabilities.
