Education Program Proposal Background Information

Proposals for the 2009 Annual Meeting will be due May 2, 2008.

General and Specialty Topics

The Education Program for the AAN 61th Annual Meeting held April 25-May 2, 2009 in Seattle, features continuing medical education (CME) options in a wide range of general neurology and specialty topics. More than 450 CME credits will be offered throughout this eight-day event by directors and faculty who are experts in their respective fields.

Program Selection Process

The AAN has a curriculum-based Education Program that provides the best possible platform for lifelong learning in neurology. Topics are selected based on the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology maintenance of certification requirements and demonstrated need.

To broaden member involvement and input, topic work groups consist of representatives from AAN Sections, general practitioners, topic experts (such as education program directors), and members of the Education Committee or Annual Meeting Subcommittee. The work groups examine the previous year's programs that pertain to their areas of expertise, evaluate data collected from attendees and auditors, as well as the program's timeliness and topicality, and also review new program proposals. After individual reviews are compiled, all the programs are ranked and recommendations are made to the Education Committee, which makes the final determinations.

The final schedule will present attendees with the best of recent programs, and a greater infusion of new topics that address the changing education needs of today's neurologists. This selection process developed in 2007 will continue to help evolve the curriculum so that the Annual Meeting Education Program remains vital and comprehensive.
