Students, Residents, and Fellows

Whether you are a student, resident, or fellow, the Annual Meeting offers a variety of career development opportunities to fit your interests and career level. Opportunities include:

Annual Meeting registration for students, residents, and fellows includes:

In a pilot project for 2008, AAN members and nonmembers who are medical students, graduate students or PhD candidates are eligible to receive general Annual Meeting registration fee for free. To be eligible, a student ID card or a letter from a professor must be submitted. Nonmembers registering for educational programs will be charged at the nonmember rates.

Medical students, graduate students and PhD candidates who are AAN members can register online. Medical Students, graduate students and PhD candidates who are nonmembers should contact CMR (Convention Management Resources).

Residents and post-doctoral fellows who are AAN members receive Junior/Affiliate (JA) rates for both general Annual Meeting registration and educational program fees. Nonmember post-doctoral fellows who apply for an AAN Affiliate membership by March 7 will qualify for JA rates. Become an Affiliate member today.


Residents' and Fellows' Career Forum and Reception
Monday, April 14, 2008

The Fellowship Poster Forum, Panel, and Reception has a new format: a career night for residents with three panel rooms as well as an expanded poster forum and reception to include exhibits of private practice groups and opportunities to learn about potential positions from recruiters. Dendrite® advertisers will also be on hand to inform residents and fellows about job opportunities.
Panel Forums: 6:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.

  • Fellowship Panel
    Learn how to search for a fellowship, how program directors select fellows, and how a fellowship could benefit their career.
  • Academic/Research Panel
    Learn how to start a career in academic/research.
  • Private Practice Panel
    Learn how to start a career in private practice.

Poster Forum and Reception: 7:30 p.m.–9:00 p.m.

Socialize with other residents and representatives from various neurology programs and address questions regarding fellowships, academic/research and private practice career opportunities.

The events are FREE and open to all meeting registrants.

American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Resident Informational Session
Monday. April 14
5:00 p.m.–6:30 p.m.

Meet directors and staff of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The panel will discuss all aspects of the neurology boards and what is expected from candidates. Free and open to all meeting registrants.

Resident/Medical Student Rush Line

The AAN is offering residents and medical students the opportunity to attend educational programs free of charge. Check in at the Membership Booth (location TBD) each morning for tickets to available courses for that day.

The booth opens at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, and 6:30 a.m., April 13 through April 19. Two tickets will be held for each course, available on a first-come, first-served basis. You are limited to one free course per day and a total of two free tickets for the week, unless there are tickets remaining ten minutes before a course begins.

The program is available for half-day and full-day courses, case study programs and kick-off and therapy programs. Seminars, workshops, and luncheons are not included.

Opportunities to Save Money

Education and Scientific Program Monitors

Monitors are needed for all Education Programs and Scientific Platform Sessions to distribute and collect evaluation materials, and assist directors, faculty, session co-chairs, and staff as required.

The AAN will waive monitors’ general meeting registration fees and waive the program fee for the monitored program, as well as grant CME credit. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

EMG Skills Workshop Subjects

Medical subjects are needed to participate in EMG Clinical Skills Workshops. Skills workshop subjects will receive a waived meeting registration and workshop fee as well as payment of $40.00 per noninvasive session and $60.00 per invasive session. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Student Loan Consolidation

Students, residents and fellows may apply for loan consolidation through Student Assistance Foundation's AAN Loan Program, a member benefit under the AAN Partners Program. Visit with the Student Assistance Foundation booth in the exhibit hall for more information.
