Historic Architectural City Tour with Visits to Bata Shoe Museum and Casa LomaGreat care has been taken by the city to preserve Toronto's historic architectural treasures. The tour begins with a ride through the beautiful Forest neighborhood with the first stop at Casa Loma, a medieval-style castle built in the heart of the city. Constructed by early 20th century financier Sir Henry Pellet for the woman he loved, the estate was an attempt to replicate the homes of European royalty. This 98 room "dream castle" sits on a six-acre property on a hill with a breathtaking view of the city and its beautifully restored gardens. Next is the one-of-a-kind Bata Shoe Museum, with more than 10,000 shoes celebrating the style and function of footwear in four impressive galleries. More than 4,500 years of history and a collection of 20th century celebrity shoes are reflected in the permanent "All About Shoes" exhibition. The museum is the only one of its kind in North America and houses everything from Chinese bound foot shoes and Ancient Egyptian Sandals to Elton Johns platforms. Next, the tour guide will show how Toronto has preserved and incorporated heritage buildings with modern structures such as BCE Place and the Design Exchange.
