American Academy of Neurology and American Academy of Neurology Foundation Awards Luncheon

Join AAN leaders as they honor the recipients of the 2011AAN Awards. From enterprising high school students to world-renowned researchers, this program recognizes some of the top accomplishment in neuroscience research. Tickets are available for $50 through registration. Students and Junior members of the AAN may attend this event at no cost by requesting a ticket.

Thomas Sherak to Receive Public Leadership in Neurology Award

The AAN Foundation will present its Public Leadership in Neurology Award to Thomas Sherak, a 40-year veteran of Hollywood film production and distribution and current president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Sherak has helped raise nearly $43 million for multiple sclerosis research and programs as chair for the MS Dinner of Champions gala event for the past 18 years. He is an active board member of the Southern California Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Fulfillment Fund of Southern California.

Throughout his career, Sherak has overseen the release of such films as Romancing the Stone, Commando, Aliens, The Fly, Broadcast News, Predator, Wall Street, Die Hard, Working Girl, The War of the Roses, Die Hard 2, Home Alone, Edward Scissorhands, Die Hard: With a Vengeance, Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition, Mrs. Doubtfire, True Lies, Speed, Independence Day, Broken Arrow, Dr. Dolittle, The X-Files, and Star Wars: Episode 1–The Phantom Menace. Sherak also consulted for Marvel Studios on films such as Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America. In August 2009, he became president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, most noted for its annual Academy Awards ceremony.
