Seniors

Make an investment in your professional future and become an AAN Member. With 24,000 medical specialists committed to improving the care of patients with neurological diseases, the AAN is dedicated to professional, scientific, and educational excellence.

Requirements

Any member of the American Academy of Neurology who has been a member for five or more years and is one of the following categories may apply for Senior status: Fellow, Research Scientist Fellow, Corresponding Fellow, Active, Corresponding Active, Associate, Research Scientist, Non-neurologist Clinician, or Business Administrator. Members must be either fully retired, disabled, or working less that 15 hours per week of professional activity.

Senior members are also invited to join the Senior Member Consortium ("Consortium"). The Consortium was originally formed in 2007 as the Retired Member Consortium, but was recently renamed to better reflect the composition of its members. This Consortium has allowed senior members to make recommendations on improving AAN benefits for retired members and members considering retirement.

Consortium members share opportunities for continued involvement in the neurology profession by:

  • Sharing experiences and expertise
  • Holding discussions on preparing for a life transition
  • Sharing possible second career paths and volunteer opportunities
  • Discussing ways to financially prepare for retirement

The Consortium has also assisted AAN senior members in remaining involved in AAN activities. The Consortium, currently at approximately 150 members, meets once a year at the AAN's Annual Meeting.
