Saturday, April 10, 2010
9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Director: Imran I. Ali, MD, FAAN
Program Venue: EP. Education Directors Program
CME Credits: 5
Program Description: Education is one of the most important elements of medical science. Fostering the teaching, assessment, feedback, and administrative skills of medical educators is important for a successful career. Medical educators must also learn to document and use their accomplishments in education for career advancement and promotion. The process of recognizing educational contribution and enhancing teaching skills of teachers at all levels will be discussed. LCME requirements and their impact on medical student education will be reviewed also. Additional areas of interest to the graduate medical education community including an early discussion of new duty requirements, sleep deprivation among residents and counter measures, and the appropriate length of training and content of education during the adult neurology year of child neurology training will be of interest to both residency and clerkship program directors.
The "Educational Tools" segment, in which participants are given an opportunity to share the tools and works in progress from their home institutions, will once again be offered.
Upon Completion: Participants should be able to define qualitative and quantitative methods of measuring educational contributions, understand methods used to enhance teaching skills, and current curricular and pedagogical issues relevant to undergraduate and graduate neurological education. Residency program directors should understand the following: medical science and practical issues surrounding sleep deprivation during residency, and counter measures; issues regarding the appropriate training of child neurology residents during the adult neurology year; and the impact of new duty hours requirements on neurology residency programs.
