Neurology Residency and Fellowship Program Directors
The AAN provides a variety of resources for residency and fellowship program directors. The consortium of Neurology Program Directors (CNPD) provides a "home" for program directors, where ideas may be exchanged and important issues discussed with colleagues. Resources for both new and established program directors are available on this page.
Letter from the Chair
I want to thank my predecessor Dr. John Engstrom. John has continued to raise the bar for the CNPD and for this we are all deeply indebted! The CNPD encourages you to become an active participant. We need your help and expertise. As program directors, we are all being asked to do more with less. Together we can raise the bar for neurologic education.
The goals the CNPD are to:
- Represent the interest of neurology residency and fellowship program directors and programs to the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS®), The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), and the Organization of Program Directors Associations (OPDA).
- Provide a "home" where residency and fellowship program directors can collaborate, cooperate, and communicate with each other concerning issues affecting neurology training programs, gain insight into program management, and discuss issues that challenge the graduate medical education environment.
- Promote the educational role of program directors in the context of professional career development.
- Encourage creation of educational teaching and assessment tools and performance of graduate medical education research.
- Provide a forum to share best practices.
I encourage you to attend the CNPD business meetings held in conjunction with the American Academy of Neurology and American Neurologic Association Annual Meetings. These meetings provide the opportunity to discuss timely information regarding the oversight of residency and fellowship training programs by the national GME oversight organizations noted above. Lastly, I encourage you to participate in a CNPD work group. If you have an idea on how we can raise the bar for neurologic education, we what to hear from you!
