What is P4P?
Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI)
The 2006 Tax Relief and Health Care Act (TRHCA) (P.L. 109-432) required the establishment of a physician quality reporting system, including an incentive payment for eligible professionals (EPs) who satisfactorily report data on quality measures for covered professional services furnished to Medicare beneficiaries during the second half of 2007 (the 2007 reporting period). CMS named this program the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI). The PQRI was further modified as a result of the Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007 (MMSEA) (Pub. L. 110-275) and the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) (Pub. L. 110-275).
To participate in the 2010 PQRI, individual EPs may choose to report information on individual PQRI quality measures or measures groups: (1) to CMS on their Medicare Part B claims, (2) to a qualified PQRI registry, or (3) to CMS via a qualified electronic health record (EHR) product. Individual EPs who meet the criteria for satisfactory submission of PQRI quality measures data via one of the reporting mechanisms above for services furnished during a 2010 PQRI reporting period will qualify to earn a PQRI incentive payment equal to 2.0% of their total estimated Medicare Part B Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) allowed charges for covered professional services furnished during that same reporting period.

Medicare e-Prescribing Incentive Program
To participate in the 2010 eRx Incentive program, individual EPs may choose to report on their adoption and use of a qualified eRx system by submitting information on one eRx measure: (1) to CMS on their Medicare part B claims, (2) to a qualified registry, or (3) to CMS via a qualified electronic health record (EHR) product.- CMS e-Prescribing Incentive Program

It's Not Too Late to Participate in the 2010 Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program (eRx)
Neurologists can still participate in the 2010 Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program (eRx) and qualify to receive the full-year 2.0% incentive payment. Individual neurologists must report the eRx measure at least 25 times to be considered incentive eligible. Also the Medicare Part B Physician Fee Schedule allowed charges for services in the eRx measure's denominator should make up 10% or more of the total 2010 estimated allowed charges.Eligible neurologists must have implemented a "qualified" system as defined in the eRx measure specifications. To see if your system meets these requirements click here and select the entry marked "2010 eRx Measure Specification and Release Notes" under the download section. Reporting the Quality Data Code (G8553) for the eRx measure to CMS through claims or submission of data using a qualified registry or from a qualified Electronic Health Record (EHR) is all that is necessary to participate.
