Quality Initiatives
Learning to integrate measurement and reporting into your practice is a start in understanding 'quality' as defined by the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) report, Crossing the Quality Chasm. The IOM Report defines quality as the voice of consumers and their experiences. Quality characteristics such as safety, timeliness, effectiveness, equity, efficiency, and patient-centeredness serve as specific aims for measurement and reporting.
AAN's focus on measurement, reporting, quality tools and quality improvement aim to help integrate quality for greater rewards. We advocate preparing for measuring the quality of care delivered to accelerate improvement and for preparing for the role quality measures increasingly play in incentive programs. The AAN monitors and highlights additional national-level quality measure activities among organizations to promote identifying, publishing, and disseminating quality indicators, refer to Quality Alliances and Resources.
