Bruce S. Schoenberg International Award in Neuroepidemiology
In tribute to Dr. Schoenberg's career in training neurologists internationally in epidemiologic methods, this award salutes a young investigator selected from a developing country or Eastern Europe.
Dreifuss-Penry Epilepsy Award
The intent of this award is to recognize physicians in the early stages of their careers who have made an independent contribution to epilepsy research.
Harold Wolff-John Graham Award: An Award for Headache/Facial Pain Research
This award recognizes individuals who have submitted research results in the field of headache and facial pain.
John Dystel Prize for Multiple Sclerosis Research
This prize recognizes outstanding contributions to research in the understanding, treatment, or prevention of multiple sclerosis.
Jon Stolk Award in Movement Disorders for Young Investigators
This award recognizes young investigators who have made significant contributions to movement disorders research. The award is named for Dr. Jon Stolk, a driving force in the drug development field for Parkinson's disease.
Lawrence C. McHenry: An Award for the History of Neurology
Selected by the Lawrence C. McHenry Award Subcommittee, this award recognizes excellence in research in the history of neurology.
Medical Student Essay Award - Extended Neuroscience Award
This program seeks to stimulate interest in the field of neurology as an exciting and challenging profession by offering a highly competitive award for the best essay in neuroscience.

Michael S. Pessin Stroke Leadership Prize
This prize is awarded to emerging neurologists who have a strong interest in, and have demonstrated a passion for learning and expanding the field of stroke research.
Mitchell B. Max Award for Neuropathic Pain
This award recognizes an individual for outstanding work in the field of neuropathic pain for either a single contribution or for lifetime achievement.
Movement Disorders Research Award
This award recognizes an individual for outstanding work in the field of Parkinson's disease or other movement disorders for either a single, outstanding contribution or for lifetime achievement.

This prize encourages high school students to explore the world of the brain and nervous system through laboratory research.
Norman Geschwind Prize in Behavioral Neurology
This prize is awarded to an individual for outstanding research in the field of behavioral neurology. Applicants should have a strong desire to expand the field of behavioral neurology through research.
Potamkin Prize for Research in Pick's, Alzheimer's, and Related Diseases
This award recognizes major contributions to the understanding of the cause, prevention, treatment of, and ultimately the cure for Pick’s, Alzheimer’s, and related diseases.
Research Award in Geriatric Neurology
This award will recognize individuals in the early stages of their careers that have made an independent contribution to geriatric neurology research.
Sheila Essey Award - An Award for ALS Research
This award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions in research in the search for the cause, treatment, prevention, and cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Sleep Science Award
This award is intended to stimulate and reward individuals in the pursuit of basic or clinical research in sleep.
Wayne A. Hening Sleep Medicine Investigator Award
This award recognizes scientific contributions in sleep from promising young investigators. The goal of this award is to reward productive young investigators and to emphasize the essential role of neurology in sleep medicine.

2012 AAN Foundation-MGFA Clinician-Scientist Development Three-Year Award
The American Academy of Neurology Foundation and the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America are pleased to announce a three-year Clinician-Scientist Development Award to support a clinician scientist's research related to Myasthenia Gravis.
2012 Susan S. Spencer Clinical Research Training Fellowship in Epilepsy
The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Foundation is pleased to announce one two-year fellowship to support clinical research training in Epilepsy.
A. B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurologic Education
The A. B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurologic Education recognizes an individual for lifetime career achievements in the field of neurological education with an emphasis on national accomplishments.
AAN Award for Creative Expression of Human Values in Neurology
The �Creative Expression Award� (CEA) recognizes an outstanding poem, short story, or work of creative nonfiction that artistically expresses human values in the practice of neurology, including compassion for persons with neurological disorders, and reflection by physicians involved in their care.
AAN International Scholarship Award
The American Academy of Neurology announces the 2012 International Scholarship Award. This scholarship is designed to provide eligible international candidates the opportunity to attend and participate in the Annual Meeting. It is not necessary to be a member to apply.
Association of Indian Neurologists in America (AINA) Lifetime Achievement Award
The AINA Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a leader in neurology by her/his peers. The recipient will be chosen based on their dedication in helping neurologists of Indian origin excel in the field of neurology. The recipient will have supported Indian neurologists over a significant period of time in achieving meaningful progress toward expressed goals.
Clinical Research Training Fellowship
The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Foundation is pleased to announce up to ten two-year fellowships to support clinical research training in the neurosciences.
Consortium of Neurology Clerkship Directors Innovation Award
The AAN Neurology Clerkship Directors Innovation Award is intended to acknowledge innovation and creativity in neurology clerkship directors. Clerkship Directors are dedicated educators who devote considerable time and energy to this task, often with little support. Many directors have developed unique tools and instruments to teach medical students, to assess knowledge, and benchmark progress.
Consortium of Neurology Clerkship Directors Teaching Award
This award is intended to acknowledge the educational efforts of neurology clerkship directors. Clerkship Directors are dedicated teachers who devote considerable time and energy to this task, often with little support. Many directors have developed extensive curricula, teaching tools, and outcome assessments to enhance neurology education.
Education Research Grant
The American Academy of Neurology Education Research Subcommittee requests proposals to promote education research. Parties interested in receiving an education research grant to study the effectiveness of neurological education programs must submit proposals by 6:00 pm Central Daylight Time, Monday, August 15, 2011. Timeline for grants projects is January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2012. Three to six grants of $5000 to $10,000 will be awarded based on the proposal and merits of the project.
Education Research Grant to Evaluate an AAN Education Program
The American Academy of Neurology Education Research Subcommittee requests proposals to evaluate an AAN education program at its 2012 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Parties interested in receiving an education research grant to evaluate an AAN education program at the AAN's 2012 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA, must submit proposals by 6:00 pm Central Daylight Time, Monday, October 3, 2011. Timeline for grant project is January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2012, or a 12 month period extending from the end of the 2012 Annual Meeting. While it is preferred that a 2012 Annual Meeting program be studied, the AAN will allow the alternative to study a 2013 Annual Meeting program if necessary. One grant of of $11,500 will be awarded based on the proposal and merits of the project.
H. Richard Tyler Award
This award encourages historical research using the AAN Rare Books Collection at the Bernard Becker Medical Library at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. The H. Richard Tyler Award is named in recognition of the neurologist's generous donation to the collection.
Kenneth M. Viste, Jr., MD, Patient Advocate of the Year Award
This award recognizes an outstanding patient advocate who embodies the leadership and advocacy qualities exemplified by Kenneth M. Viste, Jr., MD.
Medical Student Prize for Excellence
The American Academy of Neurology’s Undergraduate Education Subcommittee (UES) is committed to promoting neurology as a specialty and as a potential career among undergraduate medical students. The UES sponsors The AAN Medical Student Prize for Excellence in Neurology to recognize graduating medical students for excellence in clinical neurology. This prize, in the amount of $200, is awarded to one graduating medical student from each medical school. The check and a certificate will be sent to you to present to the student on behalf of the AAN during your institution's graduation/awards ceremony.
Medical Student Summer Research Scholarship
The AAN will award up to twenty $3,000 scholarships to first- or second-year medical students who are current AAN members, and who have a supporting preceptor and a project with clearly defined goals. Third year AAN medical student members who are on an official summer break will also be considered with accompanying documentation. The project is to be conducted through a U.S. or Canadian institution of the student's choice and jointly designed by the student and sponsoring institution. Only applicants from schools with established SIGN chapters are eligible to apply. More than one student from an institution may apply, but only one student will be selected from an institution.
Minority Scholars Program
The Minority Scholars Program was established in 1993 to promote diversity in the field of neurology. The program provides medical students the opportunity to learn more about careers in neurology and neuroscience.
NEW! Patient Safety Award
The Patient Safety Award recognizes research and/or care improvement projects designed to meet the Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals. Favor will be given to those applicants that demonstrate innovative and forward-thinking approaches, as well as measurable and replicable improvement. One recipient will be selected from each of two categories: Residents/Fellows and Practicing Neurologists
Practice Research Training Fellowship
The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Foundation is pleased to announce one two-year fellowship to support training in clinical practice research, which is defined as "clinical research that evaluates translation of evidence into best clinical practice." This may include evaluation of health services, quality of care, implementation of proven therapies, physician performance, or patient adherence.
Program Director Recognition Award
The Program Director Recognition Award is intended to acknowledge excellence on behalf of neurology program directors. Program directors face many challenges in administering a residency program. The time has come to recognize individuals whose leadership, creativity, and innovation, is crucial in ensuring the future of Neurology.
Resident Scholarship to the Annual Meeting
The resident scholarship is offered as an effort to recognize the importance of resident attendance at the AAN Annual Meeting. In order to receive one of the scholarships, residents need to be nominated for one by their Program Director. The $1,000 scholarship is used to reimburse resident expenses associated with attendance at the Annual Meeting. If a program is located in the immediate vicinity of the Annual Meeting, the scholarship will be $500.The scholarship will be given as an unrestricted educational grant to the resident's institution and mailed to the Program Director 8-12 weeks following the Annual Meeting.
