Congress passed legislation which extended the 2008 Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) for an additional year and provides funding for 1.5-percent bonus payments to participating physicians. The PQRI remains a voluntary program. Neurologists are encouraged to participate to gain experience in reporting quality measures in anticipation of the program possibly becoming mandatory in the future. In addition to the stroke measures developed by the Academy, neurologists may potentially report several other measures. The Academy has not formally endorsed any of these other measures.
