EHR Incentive Program Requires PECOS Enrollment

The Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive program, which provides incentive payments to eligible professionals and hospitals as they demonstrate adoption, implementation, upgrading or meaningful use of certified EHR technology, will be using Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS) to verify Medicare enrollment prior to payment.

If you have enrolled in Medicare or updated your enrollment information after November 2003, no further action is required. If you are not enrolled or are unsure if information is current, click here for the following information on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) website:

• Check the Ordering Referring Report to verify you have a current enrollment record in PECOS
• Check the Internet-based PECOS (if you are set up in the system) and look for your PECOS enrollment record.
• Access the Medicare Fee-For-Service Contact Information under “downloads” and contact your designated Medicare enrollment contractor to verify your PECOS record.
