AAN Sounds off to CMS about Consult Codes as part of Proposed 2011 MPFS Comments

On an annual basis, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) releases proposed changes to its Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) and accepts public comments on their proposals. Anyone can submit comments during this open public comment period: the AAN reviews the proposed MPFS and submits extensive comments every year.

Of particular interest in the proposed 2011 Fee Schedule, CMS is looking for examples of experiences and difficulties individuals have had over the past several months as a result of the loss of consultation codes in January. The AAN took this opportunity to remind CMS about the multitude of hassles caused by the decision, and to again strongly urge CMS to reconsider their elimination of payment for these important services.
