The health care reform bill passed in 2010 included a provision that creates a new board known as the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB). Members of this board will be appointed by the president and are tasked with making recommendations to cut spending in Medicare if spending growth reaches certain levels. IPAB effectively removes Medicare spending decisions from Congress and leaves them up to an unelected, unaccountable board.
This week, Congress began discussing IPAB and its mandates. It is imperative that Congress hears our side of this issue and learns about our concerns. Please send a message to your elected officials asking them to eliminate IPAB.
