Medical Student Prize for Excellence

The American Academy of Neurology’s Undergraduate Education Subcommittee (UES) is committed to promoting neurology as a specialty and as a potential career among undergraduate medical students. The UES sponsors the AAN Medical Student Prize for Excellence in Neurology to recognize graduating medical students for excellence in clinical neurology. This prize, in the amount of $200, is awarded to one graduating medical student from each medical school. The check and a certificate will be sent to you to present to the student on behalf of the AAN during your institution's graduation/awards ceremony. Neurology clerkship directors, department chairs (and/or their designees), and neurology residents should evaluate the performance of all graduating medical students in the clinical neurology clerkship and choose one student from each medical school as recipient. The award winner must have outstanding evaluations and recommendations from faculty and residents and show the most promise for a career in neurology. Excellent performance on the neurology shelf exam or equivalent examination can be utilized as supporting criteria if available. If more than one student fulfills these criteria, the student who shows the most promise for a career in neurology should be nominated. The award will be in addition to, and separate from, any other neurology award given to graduates at the local or institutional level. To nominate one of your graduating medical students, please nominate and provide the nominating letter for the medical student online before March 8, 2013. After nominations have been submitted and the recipients are identified, the AAN will send recipients a W-9 or 8-BEN Tax Form for Canadian citizens for their completion. Incomplete applications and applications received after March 8 will not be considered. Please direct questions to Cheryl Alementi at calementi@aan.com or (612) 928-6073.
