Health Care Disparities
Participants should be able to describe the concepts of health equity, health disparities, vulnerable and underserved populations, social justice, implicit bias, structural racism, and cultural sensitivity; list prevailing major disparities in neurology and promising avenues to bridge them; appreciate the roles that training and research can play in overcoming neurologic disparities; appreciate that reduction of neurologic disparities will require greater emphasis on non-medical (social) determinants of health; recognize importance of the health system as well as the community and social context as modifiable targets to address brain health equity challenges; appreciate the need for workforce diversity to address health inequities and neurologic disparities; and understand the potential contributions of advocacy and leadership to bridging neurologic disparities.
