Participants should be able to: gain familiarity with the rationale of polysomnography interpretation in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of key sleep disorders; integrate the criteria provided in the International Classification of Sleep Disorders, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Practice Parameters and the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events in the diagnosis of sleep disorders including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, motor disorders of sleep, and parasomnias; describe the design and interpretation of sleep studies for the analysis of the major respiratory sleep disorders and the major non-respiratory sleep disorders likely to be encountered by a neurologist; gain familiarity in the interpretation of the polysomnogram record samples and discuss scoring strategies for respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders in neurology patients who present with sleep complaints such as hypersomnia, insomnia, and abnormal behaviors and movements during the night.
