History and Archives Committee

The History and Archives Committee is charged with overseeing the history of the American Academy of Neurology as an organization, including, but not limited to, the AAN Archives, the Oral History Project, and Special History Exhibitions at Annual Meetings during milestone anniversaries of the AAN.

Job Description

Responsibilities
The History and Archives Committee is charged with overseeing the history of the American Academy of Neurology as an organization, including, but not limited to, the AAN Archives, the Oral History Project, and Special History Exhibitions at Annual Meetings during milestone anniversaries of the AAN. The committee also will serve as a liaison of the AAN with other neurological societies (including the American Neurological Association, the Child Neurology Society, the World Federation of Neurology, and the European Neurological Society) concerning development of joint projects concerning the history of neurology.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in two in-person meetings annually and scheduled teleconferences focused on supporting the specific needs of the AAN in developing and maintaining a documentation of its history, sharing this history with AAN members and the broader neurology community
  • Organize and execute long-range historical projects, e.g., Oral History Archives, historical exhibits at milestone Annual Meetings (70th anniversary in 2018, 75th anniversary in 2023), 75th anniversary commemorative book
  • Participate in ad hoc meetings as required for special projects

Selection/Appointment
The AAN president will appoint the chair and members of the History and Archive Committee. These will include neurologists with a special aptitude and affinity for the history of the AAN and neurology. 

Estimated Time Commitment
Meeting/conference call attendance plus additional time on projects as deemed necessary.
