Practice Committee

The Practice Committee promotes the rewarding practice of neurology by ensuring safe, high-quality patient care and advocating for practicing neurologists and their patients. The Practice Committee oversees and coordinates the work of the subcommittees responsible for guideline development and dissemination, patient safety, practice improvement, and quality measures.

Description
The Practice Committee promotes the rewarding practice of neurology by ensuring safe, high-quality patient care and advocating for practicing neurologists and their patients.  The Practice Committee oversees and coordinates the work of the subcommittees responsible for guideline development, dissemination, and implementation, patient safety, practice improvement, and quality measurement development, dissemination, and implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Attend three committee meetings each year, including one at AAN Annual Meeting.
  • Participate in the Practice Committee email listserv discussions; as issues arise, vote on no more than two policy-related issues and documents via email every Friday.
  • Participate in monthly (as business arises) Practice Committee phone calls.
  • Contribute to Practice Committee projects. This may include, but is not limited to, participation in Work Group meetings, conference calls, and external research.
  • Liaison to other medical specialty societies or organizations.  This may include, but is not limited to, overseeing aspects of the collaboration, attending meetings of the collaborating group, and guiding projects through the AAN approval process.
  • Submit status reports to AAN staff prior to the agenda deadline for each Practice Committee meeting for subcommittees, committees, work groups or other organizations that you represent; provide a report to the full Committee at the meeting.
  • Copy AAN staff on all Committee-related correspondence.

Estimated Time Commitment 
Six hours per month.

  • Chair (voting)
  • Vice Chair (voting)
  • Chair of each Practice subcommittee (voting): Guideline Development, Dissemination, and Implementation Subcommittee (GDDI) and Quality and Safety Subcommittee (QSS)
  • Chair of the Stroke Systems Work Group (voting)
  • Chair of the Business and Research Administrators in Neurology Society (BRAINS) (voting)
  • Chair of the Medical Economics and Management Committee (MEM) (voting)
  • Liaison from the Child Neurology Society (voting)
  • 14 at large members (voting)
  • Three staff
