Vote on Proposed Bylaws Change at Business Meeting
A proposed change to the AAN bylaws is on the agenda for the Academy’s annual Business Meeting on Monday, April 20, 2015, at 8:00 a.m. during the Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
AAN members are encouraged to attend and vote on the proposed bylaws amendment as well as the slate of nominees for AAN officer and director positions for the 2015-2017 term.
The proposed amendment to the AAN Bylaws would add the chair of the Member Engagement Committee as an ex-officio voting member of the AAN Board of Directors.
Currently, the chairs of the Government Relations Committee and Medical Economics and Management Committee serve as directors on the AAN Board of Directors. The chairs of the Education Committee, Science Committee and Practice Committee serve as directors on the AAN Institute Board of Directors.
The Member Engagement Committee was formed recently to allow for physician and non-physician members to provide strategic direction on overall membership policies, recruitment, and retention strategies. This major committee also will advise the Academy on the optimal member experience as it relates to communications and digital strategies. As with other committee chair ex-officio director positions, the AAN Bylaws Committee determined that the amendment would provide an important communication link between the Board of Directors and the Member Engagement Committee on matters critical to Academy membership strategies and policy.
The classes of membership entitled to vote on any matter during any business meeting of the Academy are members in the Fellows and Active Member categories. Honorary and Senior members who had voting privileges in their most recent previous category of membership also are eligible to vote.
