Free to Members, Neurology Question of the Day App Is Convenient, Fun Learning Resource

May 31, 2024

The AAN’s convenient Neurology Question of the Day app is designed specifically to promote continuous learning and knowledge retention with minimal effort and maximum fun. But do you know how it works—and how to get the most out of it? Here’s a quick guide.

How the Neurology Question of the Day App Works

Following a monthly curriculum, the app serves up one new multiple-choice question with discussion each day on various topics in neurology that users answer to stay up-to-date, assess their strengths and knowledge gaps, get suggested resources for further study, and fulfill valuable self-assessment CME requirements.

Zachary N. London, MD, FAAN

“The [Neurology Question of the Day app] questions map to the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology content outline, which means that in a year, you will see the same percent of questions about stroke, movement disorders, neurogenetics, etc. as appear on the actual neurology board examination,” said Zachary N. London, MD, FAAN, chair of the Neurology Question of the Day Work Group. “

While the app’s purpose is education, its methods differ significantly from more traditional learning resources. Instead of simply providing ways for users to study by themselves, it gamifies the experience by allowing them to get competitive.

“You can set up an account with a username (mine is Don’t Stop Be-Lesion), track your progress towards CME, identify areas of relative strength and weakness, and compete against other users,” London said. “You can even form teams and go toe-to-toe with neurologists or students around the world. I’m on a team with a bunch of University of Michigan residents. Our team name is ‘Michi-Ganglia.’ We haven’t won anything yet, but hope springs eternal!”

Extra Features for Students

Felicia Gliksman, DO, MPH, FAAN

While the Neurology Question of the Day app is designed for all career stages, medical students can access extra features to help them learn and connect in the Student Track, which serves up student-specific questions particularly useful in supplementing their studies in neurology.

“The Question of the Day App is a quick resource for students to test their knowledge on-the-go,” said Felicia Gliksman, DO, MPH, FAAN, chair elect of the AAN’s Consortium of Neurology Education Coordinators. “With immediate feedback on the answer with reasoning, students know immediately where to focus their studying.”

The app—which is completely free to all AAN members—recently received an upgrade. Visit the Neurology Question of the Day page to ensure you have the latest version for your Apple or Android device.
