Payer-specific Policies

Improve your understanding of the following insurance providers' policies, guidelines, and fee schedules to ease your billing process and receive correct and timely reimbursement.

The Academy, through volunteer efforts of members of the Payment Policy Subcommittee, frequently requests help from within the Academy's sections to review and provide input on applicable policies.

AETNA

Use the AAN's Payer Feedback Form to report an issue you are having with Aetna to AAN staff.

ANTHEM

Use the AAN's Payer Feedback Form to report an ongoing or unresolved issue you are having with WellPoint to the Academy.

CIGNA

Use the AAN's Payer Feedback Form to report an issue you are having with Cigna to the AAN.

HUMANA

Use AAN's Payer Feedback Form to report an issue you are having with Humana to the Academy.

UNITEDHEALTHCARE (UHC)

Use the AAN's Payer Feedback Form to report an issue you are having with UHC to the Academy.

*UnitedHealthCare (UHC) posted a notice in their April Network Bulletin about efforts to clean up their provider directory (see page 4 of the bulletin).  Effective August 1, 2015, UHC will terminate agreements for providers who have not submitted claims for a period of one (1) year on the basis that they are not actively treating UHC members.  They will also inactivate any tax identification numbers (TINs) under which there have been no claims submitted for a period of one (1) year or longer on the bases that they are not in active use.
