You will learn the principles and practice of electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG), evoked potentials (EPs), intraoperative monitoring (IOM), diseases of the peripheral nervous system, sleep medicine, autonomic physiology, intraoperative monitoring, central motor physiology, and electronystagmography. As a fellow, you participate in outpatient and inpatient neuromuscular consultations and share responsibility for teaching the neurology residents and medical students who rotate through the laboratories. In addition, we offer an extensive teaching conference schedule, covering electrophysiology and nerve/muscle/skin biopsy review. You interact with and teach medical students, neurology residents, and allied health professionals. At our CNP laboratories, we perform approximately 1,400 EMG examinations per year. The wide range of patients enables you to observe and participate in a broad spectrum of procedures including neuromuscular ultrasound, botulinum toxin injections, motor unit analysis, and single-fiber EMG.
