At Barrow, we aim to lead aspiring neurointensivists to obtain proficiency in both neurological and neurosurgical emergencies and to attain excellence in the management of general critical care issues. Given our extensive referral network, we see diverse pathologies spanning all neurological and neurosurgical subspecialties. St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center is a level 1 trauma center, giving our fellows exposure to traumatic brain and spine injuries. We offer a variety of multimodal monitoring methods in the neurocritical care ICU, including but not limited to: EEG ICP CPP PbtO2 TCDs We train our fellows to manage uniquely complex neuroscience cases and a wide range of general critical care disorders during their training. We provide a collaborative environment amongst various medical specialties to train our fellows to become well-rounded intensivists. This includes obtaining aptitude in at least the following ICU procedures: Endotracheal intubations Bronchoscopy Central line placement Arterial line insertion Temporary dialysis catheter insertion Chest tube placement Lumbar puncture Bedside point of care ultrasound Fellows will have the opportunity to rotate through the following areas to enhance their knowledge further: Medical ICU Trauma ICU Surgical ICU Cardiovascular ICU TCD Vascular Neurology Anesthesiology Electroencephalography Neuroradiology Neuro-oncology Additionally, fellows will be able to schedule rotations in other fields of interest during the training program.
