Learning Objectives This session provides a concise introduction to the core structures of clinical education—clerkships, observerships, and electives—tailored for new medical education professionals. The clerkship segment offers an overview of key LCME standards that govern clinical learning, including expectations for objectives, assessment, comparability, and learning environments, and outlines the critical role administrators play during an LCME visit, from preparing documentation to supporting site readiness and demonstrating continuous quality improvement. The session then shifts to observerships and electives, highlighting common program models, institutional requirements, and best practices for managing visiting and home-institution learners. Participants will explore practical scheduling tools and workflow-streamlining techniques, such as digital scheduling platforms, standardized communication processes, and tracking systems that reduce administrative burden while improving learner experience, and should gain a clear, foundational understanding of how to manage these programs efficiently and in alignment with accreditation and institutional expectations.
