Reta Lila Weston Institute of Neurological Studies Researcher to Receive Movement Disorders Award for Research in Lost Clinical Observations

St. Paul, Minn., -

Andrew Lees, MD, FRCP, director of the Reta Lila Weston Institute of Neurological Studies, will be honored with the 2006 Movement Disorders Research Award for his work in lost clinical observations. Lees will receive the award during the American Academy of Neurology’s 58th Annual Meeting in San Diego, Calif., held April 1 – 8. The Movement Disorders Research Award recognizes an individual for outstanding work in the field of Parkinson’s disease or other movement disorders for either a single outstanding contribution or for lifetime achievement. Lees’ work shows how important clinical observations may get lost over time and appear to be rediscovered, using the writings of British neurologist William Gowers to illustrate this problem. “The American Academy of Neurology meeting has been a constant fixture on my academic calendar for 20 years,” said Lees. “It remains the premier international forum for the presentation of cutting edge research in neurology. To be voted for this prestigious award by my peers is a humbling and pleasurable experience.” This award is sponsored by the AAN Movement Disorders Section and the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. It is endowed by the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. The 58th Annual Meeting takes place in the San Diego Convention Center. It is the world’s largest annual gathering of neurologists.
