New Neurology® Open Access Journal Announced
MINNEAPOLIS – The American Academy of Neurology announces today its newest journal, Neurology® Open Access, which joins the flagship journal Neurology® and its four subspecialty journals. The new online peer-reviewed journal publishes original research articles, scholarly reviews, case reports and study protocols in all areas of neurology and the clinical neurosciences. Editor-in-Chief of Neurology® José G. Merino, MD, MPhil, FAAN, FAHA, said, “The new journal complements the lineup of the Neurology® family of journals as it will have a broad scope encompassing all areas of neurology and will publish papers in an open access model, allowing anyone in the world to access every paper.” The mission of Neurology® Open Access is to publish high-quality, peer-reviewed original manuscripts that improve decision-making by clinicians, clinical researchers, and policymakers to enhance patient care and promote brain health for all. The journal will be free to readers worldwide. Neurology® Open Access will be a continuous online-only journal with articles published throughout the year. Online issues will be compiled four times per year. The editor for Neurology® Open Access is Amy Kunchok, MBBS, MMed, FRACP, PhD. Kunchok previously served on the editorial boards of Neurology® and Neurology® Neuroimmunology & Neuroinflammation. “The new journal, Neurology® Open Access, provides a great opportunity for clinician researchers to showcase the latest scientific advancements in the field of neurology,” said Kunchok. “The open access format ensures articles reach a wide audience to help improve patient care, advance neurologic research and inform public policy.” Kunchok is a neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic and Associate Professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. She is the Director of the Autoimmune Neurology Program and Associate Program Director of the Neuroimmunology Fellowship. Kunchok’s research focuses on clinical outcomes and biomarkers of autoimmune neurological disorders and demyelinating diseases. Kunchok obtained her post-graduate medical degree (MBBS), Master of Medicine in clinical epidemiology (MMed), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Sydney, Australia. She completed internal medicine and neurology specialist training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney and fellowship in multiple sclerosis at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. She completed fellowships in autoimmune neurology and multiple sclerosis at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Neurology® Open Access joins the Neurology® family of publications: Neurology®, the official journal of the AAN, Neurology® Clinical Practice, and the online journals Neurology® Genetics, Neurology® Neuroimmunology & Neuroinflammation and Neurology® Education.
