AAN Donates $1 Million to Research
CHICAGO -
The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) is demonstrating its commitment to research for treatments and cures for neurological disorders with a $1.04 million donation to the AAN Foundation to support clinical research training fellowships for promising young researchers. Each of the new fellowships provides a total of $130,000 over two years. “This generous donation will allow the AAN Foundation to fund an additional eight Clinical Research Training Fellowships for a total of $1.5 million funded this year,” said Foundation Chair Austin J. Sumner, MD, FAAN. “This funding will jump-start many new discoveries by these impressive researchers. The donation comes at an important time—with federal funds for neurological research flat, we are proud that our commitment to research is increasing. Our goal is to become the largest funder of neurological research outside the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.” Recipients of the 2008 Clinical Research Training Fellowships will be honored during the American Academy of Neurology's 60th Annual Meeting in Chicago, held April 12–19, 2008.
