AAN Awards Rochester Neurologist with Education Award

ST. PAUL, Minn. -

The American Academy of Neurology has awarded Ralph F. Józefowicz, MD, FAAN, of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York, the 2010 A.B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurologic Education. The award will be presented at the Academy’s 62nd Annual Meeting in Toronto in April of 2010. “I am truly humbled and honored to be receiving this award,” Józefowicz said. “The previous winners represent the greats of neurologic education and it is truly a privilege to be joining their ranks. More importantly, this award is really about the students and residents whom we all teach. It is their inspiration and their questions that motivate us to teach and do better.” Józefowicz has just completed a six-year term as chair of the Academy’s Education Committee. He has also helped develop the infrastructure for the Academy’s Maintenance of Certification activities, distance learning initiatives and securing research grants for education research. As a result of Józefowicz’ leadership, the Academy has established the Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN) program that now has more than 100 chapters in US medical schools. At the University of Rochester, Józefowicz has served as neurology clerkship director, neuroscience course director, and as neurology residency director for 12 years. Józefowicz also established collaborations with Jagiellonian University College of Medicine in Krakow, Poland, where he teaches four weeks each year and developed an education exchange program between the school and the University of Rochester.
